The NFL is a very powerful business worldwide. The NFL Combine itself has turned into big business alone. The NFL Draft is a complicated event for most fans and teams, but what about the players? Do they know what is really going on? No, I would say that 90% of the kids do not know what is taking place and how their lives will change forever. Now first lets break down the combine. You hear the scouts and coaches call the NFL Combine a “job interview” etc. Now I guess that is the appropriate term to use but really if you do not understand what the scout is really trying to do at the NFL Combine and prodays across the nation then you will have no clue. The main thing they are looking for is the best PRODUCT for the CHEAPEST PRICE…. That is interesting but true. How can they get the coaches and owners the diamond in the rough for little to nothing.

I will tell you a story about an Ohio University Wide Receiver who got a huge opportunity because of a NFL Pro day. His name was Stephen Goulet. Now this kid had to have some talent to be at a division 1A school that was on the rise, but the school was at that time still a mid major school that was on the come up. Ohio University has had some Draft picks and players who have made it to the NFL, but most of those players were stars of the team or high impact players in the conference. This guy didn’t really get much playing time until his later years on Ohio and possibly really his senior year. His numbers were far from impressive on the field, and most people really did not think he was going to be one of the guys who was in a NFL jersey the following year but he knew what had to take place to do it. He knew that in order to make it, it was pretty simple….

Let me repeat, if you run a fast 40 yard dash you have a shot at making it…So what did he do? This kid who nobody thought could run went out to the Ohio University NFL pro day and crushed it by running a blazing 4.3 40 yard dash. Shocked everybody but him, and he ended up playing against me in the Preseason game 3rd game New Orleans Saints vs. Oakland Raiders…I was very proud of him making it when not many people thought he could, but he knew he could because he knew what needed to take place.

Understand that if you want to have a shot to make it to the NFL, you must run fast first…Now to stay in the NFL, obviously you must do many other things very well and have God on your side lol….But first thing you must know is that you can WOW the scouts at your NFL Combine or Pro Day by running faster. Every bit of time off your 40 helps drastically, and if you are hungry like I was, then you will try everything in your power to improve what you know the NFL Combine/Pro Day scouts are looking for. That Diamond in the rough who will make them famous lol..
