Kevin Durant Is Tired Of Being Number 2

Kevin Durant recently told Sports Illustrated, “I’ve been second my whole life. I was the second-best player in high school. I was the second pick in the draft. I’ve been second in the MVP voting three times. I came in second in the Finals. I’m tired of being second … I’m done with it.”

Days later Russell Westbrook hurt his knee in game 2 against the Rockets. He continued to play in the second half finishing with 28 points. Oklahoma City Thunder won 105-102. Westbrook who never missed a game during his five year career nor in his college career had surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee. It was later announced that he was out for the rest of the playoffs so he could come back stronger.

With Westbrook being out, Durant needs to prove himself without his go to guy. In Game 3 Oklahoma City Thunder worked well together and Durant showed up completely with 41 points and 14 rebounds. Making it a 3-0 lead in the series with a 104-101 victory against the Rockets.

Game 4 was intense Monday night, OKC could have tied the game, but Serge Ibaka missed a lay up in the last second of the game. It was a disappointment for the Thunder, with the Rockets winning 105-103.

They will meet again for Game 5 in Oklahoma on Wednesday. The question is, will the Thunder go to the Western Conference Semifinals without Westbrook. Durant is a great player and if he puts some aggressiveness in the mix of that, with the help of his teammates the Thunder may be able to go far.
